DR.
RAJENDRA PRASAD Dr. Rajendra Prasad, formerly Advisor and Head of the International Science & Technology Affairs Division at the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) of India, is now an independent Patent Consultant. He is a registered Patent Agent in India and has been designated as 'Scientific Advisor' to the Controller General of Patents, Designs and trade Marks in India. He has established 'Merit India Consultants Private Limited' to render consultancy in the 'intellectual property' property space and also a website: http://www.technology-patent.com/ Dr Prasad has worked at CSIR for more than 32 years in a variety of capacities, and spent considerable time in developing corporate policies for promoting S&T cooperation for CSIR scientists at the global level. He has also worked briefly with the World Bank advising on developing science and technology systems in south Africa. Dr. Prasad's contributions in the area of environment are significant. He authored a country report on soil contamination (1996), organized an international conference on soil contamination (1999), and represented his country on the Commonwealth Science Council (CSC) between 1990 until 2004 when the CSC was wound up by the Commonwealth Secretariat. He participated in CSC's flagship programmes on energy, biodiversity and water as well as a number of programmes environment. He was also the National Coordinator from India for all components of ‘Chemical Research and Environment Needs (CREN)’ programme of CSC, which include green house gas emissions and chemical residues. He was also the National Coordinator from India for the CSC project on ‘Hazardous Waste Management’. In addition, he managed and implemented several bilateral projects on the environment in the past that included: 'Quaternary upwelling and climate in the Arabian Sea related to Monsoonal Events'; 'Development of CFC Alternatives’ and 'Decomposition of CFCs'. Dr. Prasad has also worked briefly with the British Council in New Delhi during 1998-99 when he handled a prestigious education project towards upgrading the educational standards of four of the India’s 18 state level engineering / technical institutes. He was instrumental in setting up of four Centres in the colleges under his purview, two devoted to capabilities in ‘Design’ and the remaining two in ‘Energy’. During 1999, he founded the ‘Indian Network for Soil Contamination Research (INSCR)’ that has been spearheading the awareness on contaminant issues in the soil environment by organizing workshops, symposia on relevant themes. INSCR is a registered body under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 of India (Reg. No. 34693 of 1999) and has large number academics and researchers as its members. Dr. Prasad earned his PhD in Chemistry at Banaras Hindu University in India and a Masters in Management and Economics at Stirling University in the U.K. Dr. Prasad was elected to the board of the Pacific Basin Consortium in February of 2006. ___________________________________________________ Dr Rajendra Prasad
