DR. MAHMOOD A. KHWAJA

Dr. Mahmood A. Khwaja is a Senior Advisor, Chemicals & Sustainable Industrial Development at SDPI. He is Head of Chemicals and Sustainable Industrial Development and is leading/has led several collaborative projects with partner reseach institutions in Japan, Korea, Czech Republic, India, Switzerland, USA and within Pakistan.

Dr. Khwaja's research interests include the following:

• Children's environmental health impacts
• Industrial wastes: characterization, pre-treatment, recycling, and reuse
• Persistent organic pollutants (POPs): monitoring, inventory, environmental impact assessment, environmental auditing
• Environmental monitoring of industrial releases/emissions, environmental impact assessment, environmental auditing
• Water quality, evaluation of ores and minerals, analytical and inorganic chemistry. Industrial surveys

Dr. Khwaja received his PhD. at the La Trobe University of Science and Technology in Melbourne, Australia. He is affiliated with the Chemical Society of Pakistan (CSP); the Ghana Chemical Society (GCS); the International POPs Elimination Network (IPEN); the Global Alliance for Incineration Alternatives (GAIA); the Clean Asia Initiative (Cai-Asia); the Global Civil Society Forum (GCSF); and the Pakistan environmental protection agency (Pak-EPA) Dr. Khwaja is the author of more than seventy-five research papers/articles published in national/international journals, proceedings, magazines and newspapers.

Dr. Khwaja was elected to the board of the Pacific Basin Consortium in February of 2006.
